Silence of the Trees

jprphotos_winter_trees

In the dark and January winter the trees stand silently as the snow covers their branches and all of the ground around them.  Few people visit them at this time.  Year after year they are there, day after day.  If it is your favorite spot to picnic you hardly notice from year to year as the trees grow and experience natures seasons.  Sometimes you hardly notice they are there except when you need shelter or shade.  The paths you walk on through the woods are covered with the snow.  They will be here for a long time, maybe you will take your grandchildren to share.

January Clear Winter Days

jprphotos_winter

These are the cold bare days of winter.  I love them, the colors are perfect and the air crystal clear.  I can see better definition during these days.  Once you look through natures camouflage and become one with it you can see things not normally seen.  How well does God do?  It is perfect and quiet.  It is a privilege to be able to see this.  To many, it is just weeds and snow.  Look and see what you can see.  BTW this is one of my first photos with my Leica DLUX 4.  What a great camera.

The End of Fall is getting Closer

rock-and-flower1

Fall is coming to an end as the color abates and hides for the winter.  Rain rain replaces the clear crisp days and soon it will also pass and turn to snow.  My favorite time of the year will pass and i will get another year older.  I am so lucky to have seen so many falls and I long to see many more.   Fall is a time for reflection for myself and i often times look very inward.  It was a great time to walk around the wooded areas and to see things like this rock.  Ugly to a great many people but to me it is just a way God has of showing us another side of beauty.   In the last gasps of a season the color still lingers on and takes on new colors and a new deepness for the darks and lights.  In the beginning of fall we see yellow trees and actively look for them and at the end of fall we see yellow, if only we will  look for it.

The Last Moments of Fall

jprphotos_WIfall It is the last moments of fall.  Autumn came and is almost gone.  The crisp air is almost the strong winter wind that takes our breath away.  The calm and quiet of fall is giving way to the lonely and desolate days of winter.  The sky is colder looking, the ground is harder and the grass is dying.  Leaves left on the ground lie in wait to deaden the grass underneath.  It is not the end, instead the continuation of a life cycle that continues on whether we are hear to see it or not.

Pumpkins for Everyone

The dreaded pumpkins are back.  It is not that I don’t like them, I do.  I also like pumpkin pie and pumpkin spice latte from StarbucksGreen Pumpkins20081014.  I love fall and everything it offers.  Now of course , is when the jackets are worn full time outside and there is no getting by in the middle of the day.  The pumpkins mean Halloween is on it’s way and I find that dreadful.  It ruins the fall for me as it is a day I do not like.  As a child I never liked it and I did not see a purpose to it.  There was nothing loving about it and all that really happened is damage with soap bars and things that got broken.   I did my time getting dressed up and walking the neighborhoods, but I found it much more agreeable to just sit back and watch.  I was Zorro one year and another a cowboy, but as I got older it became a ghost or just simple things and all was lost for me.  I did not mind taking my siblings around and being the big brother.  I just did not want to do it.

I carve pumpkins now because the Grandkids like it and it is enjoyment.  To see their faces at what they drew or carved, it worth every minute.  I guess the real reason is that it signals the end of my special time.  The cold becomes more biting and not as friendly.  I will hang on to fall a little longer and try to smile when someone says treat or treat.

The Edge of Rain

jprphotos_morning_fall The morning before work I looked out the window an noticed an absence of the sun.  The rain was almost there as a drop fell here or there.  I walked outside.  There will be very few days left that the children will play on the swings and slides.  The colder air and the snow will prevail.

This is a quiet moment to just look around and enjoy what God has given us.  The trees and their colors, a shed in the back yard to keep the tools to keep the yard and of course the slide and swings for the Grandkids.
